Home of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the St. Pete Times Forum is the jewel of downtown Tampa. In addition to NHL hockey, the 660,000 SF facility seats up to 21,500 and hosts more than 150 events annually, including concerts, family events, ice shows, the circus and indoor sports. The design for the landscape architectural spaces surrounding the facility was designed by David Conner to accommodate the large crowds which often congregate in and around the building. The primary feature for the design is a large plaza gathering space west of the main building entrance. Using photographs of the Lightning’s practice net; David Conner laid out over 200,000 hexagonal pavers to replicate the net on the surface of the plaza. The “net” design breaks up the large space with an interesting curvilinear paving pattern unique to the facility.
